Kevin P. O'Brien, Attorney

A partner and member of Ivins, Phillips & Barker's Management Committee, Mr. O'Brien has practiced in the area of employee benefits and executive compensation for over 25 years. While attending law school, he worked for the Pension & Welfare Plans Division of the Department of Labor. Today, he represents clients on a broad array of benefits and compensation matters and is a Charter Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel. He was also one of the founders of the Employers Council on Flexible Compensation and served as an officer of ECFC for many years.

Mr. O'Brien received both a J.D. and LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. He graduated cum laude and with distinction from Georgetown University, receiving a B.A. in 1973. He is a member of the ABA Tax Section and has served on the Employee Benefits Committee. He is also a member of the District of Columbia Bar Taxation Section's Employee Benefits Committee.

Mr. O'Brien lectures and writes frequently on benefits issues and currently is a contributing editor to the Benefits Law Journal as well as being a contributing author of Guide to Cash Balance Plans (Aspen Publishers, 2003). He served as co-Editor-in-Chief of the Benefits Law Journal from 1997 through 2001 and was named among the premier benefits counselors in the country in Best Lawyers in America (10th ed.) (2003-2004).
